Shanta Rao (1930 - 28 December 2007) was a notable dancer, well-renowned in India. She was an exponent of Bharatanatyam and also studied Kathakali and Kuchipudi.

Awards and Recognition

She has been recognized for her contribution by government and the society.

  • She was recipient of Padma Shri given by Government of India in 1971.
  • Sangeet Natak Akademi Award given by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, in 1970.
  • Kalidas Samman for Classical Dance of Government of Madhya Pradesh for 1993-94.
  • Born in 1930 in Mangalore, she lived in Mumbai and Bangalore. She died on 28 December 2007 at her home at Malleshwaram, Bangalore
